There was a time when social media marketing was a strange and wonderful idea conceived in the minds of people who wanted to change the world. Back then, the only way anyone could market their business was through word of mouth. You make one customer happy and within days, about twenty other people will want to patronize you.

Close friends and relatives were reliable marketers as well and they really helped us to make sales. We reaped several benefits from the many friends we had and the people they told about our business.
Social media marketing came into the scene and shook the business world. Right now, anyone can sell their products themselves with some basic knowledge about social media marketing. Knowledge of social media marketing is pivotal to the success of any business.

In 2005, only about 50% of Americans used social media. Today that number has increased to 70%.

In 2018, there were approximately 29.3 million social network users in Nigeria, and this figure is projected to grow to 36.8 million in 2023. But, at the present time, the percentage is about 32.4 million users.

There are millions of people who make use of social media and social media marketing has become the diamond mine of the business world. Thus, making it a great deal to promote your business on social media.

 

Now that you know that you cannot ignore social media marketing anymore, here are a few marketing strategies to help you with your business:

  3. Use contests to engage your customers
  4. Make sure you have excellent content
  5. Do not sound too salesy

There are tons of benefits that come with social media marketing. Many businesses have realized that if they do not beef up their social media marketing strategies, they will end up left behind in this fast pacing world if disruptive technologies. If you’re still in doubt about the impact of social media in the world today, here are a few statistics that will change your mind:

• Facebook alone has 2.6 billion active users monthly.
• more than 322 million people use Pinterest
• Instagram has over 500 million active accounts used every day.

Social media is like a sea full of millions of fish. Knowledge of social media is the hook and bait that you can use to get the customers you want and grow your business to astonishing heights. Here are just a few benefits of social media marketing:

  •  It will give you access to a larger audience
  • You can have a strong connection with your audience
  • You can increase traffic on your website or blog
  • It helps you to increase your leads
  • You generate more sales and make more money

Anyhoo, let me quickly throw more light on the strategies I listed out earlier, about how to promote your business on social media.

 

1. Write down your goals

You must have clear goals and aims if you mean business with social media marketing. You must be sure of what you want before you make any plans. Having clear goals will help you check your growth and progress. A study showed that writing down your goals increases tour chances of achieving them by 30% – 40%.

How to set achievable goals:

1. Make use of numbers. Numbers help to direct your focus. For Instance, if you want to increase your visibility on Instagram, you must use numbers to determine the target audience you want to have. Instead of saying that you just want to have more views, make it clear. You can decide that you want to have 5,000 followers in 3 months.
2. Make sure you have a deadline. Deadlines keep you focused.
3. Your goals should be SMART.
4. Set goals that are aligned with marketing strategy

 

 

2. Do your homework

You must have done enough research about the platforms you want to use and the kind of audience that uses those platforms. You cannot use the same strategies for different social media platforms. When it comes to social media marketing, you must know your audience very well. You must discover their pain points, their desires, and what they all share. Here are a few tips to help you understand your audience:
1. Study your audience to discover their pain points
2. Study their demographics
3. Always engage your audience in conversations. If you have a blog, always respond to comments
4. Constantly request feedback from your audience.
When you have determined your target audience, you will be in a better position to give them what they want. This is an especially important aspect of social media marketing.

 

 

3. Use contests to engage your customers

One of the most amazing things about contests is that it not only engages your customers but it also attracts more customers, once in a while, have contests where you do giveaways to your winners. It will help your customers feel like they are really a part of what you are doping.

 

 

4. Make sure you have excellent content

You can’t just post anything you want online. Your content must be planned and arranged perfectly. Great content is what will keep your customers. Another thing you must know is that you cannot post the same kind of content on different platforms. You must know the kind of content that is suitable for each platform. For instance, you cannot use visual images for LinkedIn: that would be more suitable for Instagram.

 

 

5. Do not sound too salesy

Your customers would want to feel like you genuinely care about them and are not just using them to make money. Establish real relationships with your customers and you won’t even have to mention your products multiple times. Sales will come naturally when you have a group of followers that are getting quality content from you and trust you. Avoid overwhelming customers with ads all the time. You could get yourself blocked or deleted. Focus on gaining the trust of your audience and they will surely buy from you.

 

 

6. Use excellent videos and captivating images

Using only words consistently can bore your audience over a period. You must have realized by now how powerful videos and images are in the world of social media. If you want to succeed in social media marketing, you must know how to create compelling high-quality images and videos. Tools and apps such as SlideShare, Shutterstock, and Canva can supply excellent pictures that will capture the attention of your audience.
The world is moving at a fast pace and social media is all the rage now. Social media marketing skills are a must-have for anyone who wants to grow his business in this era. Don’t be left behind. Follow these tips and watch your business grow to unimaginable heights.
