How Much are Content Writers Paid in Nigeria

writers photoMany people looking for information on how to make money writing in Nigeria often find themselves asking the question “how much do writers make in Nigeria?” and this is totally understandable.

I have been earning with my writing skill since the year 2008 and in this article, I attempt to show you the various earning possibilities for writers in Nigeria.

There are two key factors that determine how much you can earn as a writer in Nigeria and they are as follows;

Are you a freelancer or a full time employee?

As a full time writer you can get paid anywhere from N30,000 – N100,000+ depending on the organization that employs you.

But generally most full time writers get paid between N50,000 – N70,000 in Nigeria.

However if you are a freelance writer the earning opportunities are numerous and you can easily earn over N150,000 with some focused effort on your part.

In my Profitable Freelancer Masterclass, I show you the exact steps to get to $1,000/Month (N365,000/Month) as a Freelancer and writing is one of the hottest skills you can easily use to accomplish this.

You can read more about the Masterclass Here.

Are you a specialized writer or a general content creator?

Another factor that determines how much you can get paid as a writer in Nigeria is your level of specialization.

As a general rule, specialized writers earn more than general content creators. Health, Finance & Insurance writers are among the highest paid group of specialized writers.

Content Type –

Another factor that plays a huge role in how much a content writer is paid in Nigeria is the type of content you write.

And this is where I would really like you to pay attention if you’re just starting out.

I started out as an article writer, creating content for blogs and for article distribution networks.

I got paid around N400 ($5) per 500 word article back then.

As I grew in proficiency, I began to bid for ghost writing projects and this paid significantly higher than article writing tasks. A single task could earn you upwards of $100 but the level of research and the time investment required are significantly higher.

But that’s not even all…

As I began my career into digital marketing I realized that most businesses needed to create compelling content so I started learning how to create compelling sales content – copy writing.

And with copy writing you can easily earn $500 and above for a single piece of content.

I remember the first time I was paid N250,000 for a copywriting task.

I could hardly believe it!

Summary

The earning opportunities available for writers are numerous but you have to choose whether you will work as a freelancer or an employee and what kind of writing you will want to specialize in.

So if you are asking “how much do content writers get paid in Nigeria?” there you have it. Anywhere from N50,000 to N300,000 on average.

I have managed to break this threshold as a Nigerian and I share the exact strategies you can use to do the same in my Profitable Freelance Masterclass where I show you how to go from $0 to $1,000/Month.

Let me know if you have any questions and I would be delighted to help you out.
